Rawiri Nicholls

Rawiri Rangihouhiri Terrence Nicholls, a PhD candidate at the SHORE & Whāriki Research Centre, Massey University, is conducting research into the dark nudges and sludge alcohol companies use to impact the behaviours of rangatahi Māori under the supervision of Associate Professor Taisia Huckle, Dr Acushla Sciascia, Professor Antonia Lyons, and Professor Timothy Mccreanor.

Alcohol related harms have long been a concern in Aotearoa. Through the analysis of unhealthy industry practices that restrict the mana motuhake and ngā wawata of rangatahi Māori, Rawiri’s research aims to contribute to a drastically under researched field. Embedded within a Kaupapa Māori research paradigm, the unhealthy industry practices employed by alcohol marketers are being dissected and researched. In an unregulated digital environment, this research will produce ground-breaking knowledge in an area that urgently needs theoretical development and literature.
